The Aquarium has not reopened but DMR scientists are hard at work, preparing for field work or presenting data. Carl Huntsberger, new scallop biologist, prepares for April scallop survey. DMR's lobster biologists, and SeaGrant colleague, presented at recent Fishermen's Forum.

We are preparing our moon jelly tank for new jelly inhabitants. They require constant circular flow that recreates ocean currents. The flow needs to be just right -- not too much or too little. To test this, we inflated a disposable glove and watched how it traveled in the tank.

It's National Art Day, and we celebrate the art created at the Aquarium this season. Our talented Aquarium Aides designed some adorable animal stamps. Visitors made jellies made by the kids using paper bowls and streamers. They looked stunning surrounding the moon jelly tank!

We celebrate Earth Day by celebrating the diversity of animals in the Gulf of Maine. This is a very large moon snail seen on a recent dive by one of our researchers. They love to eat clams, using their foot to hold them while they work their way into the shell for the meat.

Check out the awesome alewives! These fish travel from the ocean up into the rivers to lay their eggs. They've begun showing up at the Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder. Today, we swung by the spot with some kids from Boothbay's elementary and high schools.

School field Trips resumed this week, and we couldn't be more thrilled! Children love driving the lobster boat and meeting intertidal critters in the Touch Tank. They experienced our new alewife exhibit with another new resident lurking in his cave, Poseidon the 8 lb lobster.

Meet the lumpfish, a staff favorite. These lumpy fish have modified fins that act like suction cups. Males are red like this during mating season. Meet these fish when we open June 11. Purchase tickets online or scan the QR code with your phone at the door to pay online.
