This week in the Reading Room, English Literature students have been consulting 1920s children's books from our 'Marspen' series. There are lots of well-known fairy tales and a few more obscure tales, like The Frog's Fair.

We've been selling crisps since at least the 1940s, and by 1962 a large pack of ready salted cost 9d. Our brand-new range of EXTREME RIDGE crisps are made with 100% British potatoes and a super-sprinkling of lip-smacking seasonings.

After being recently catalogued, these papers about 'Cycling Sam' made their debut in the reading room. M&S employee Sam Worton, aka 'Cycling Sam', spent his holidays cycling to 243 M&S stores in 1950-1955. He collected staff signatures in his notebooks and recorded his routes.

Cotton was the perfect fabric for the spring blouses in this 1950s window display. Since 2019, all the cotton used for our clothing is certified organic, certified recycled or responsibly sourced via Better Cotton.
