19 years ago, on January 17, 2002; Nyiragongo volcano erupted. Today, Goma has expended: population is 1.1 million people and live under the fear of new Nyiragongo eruption, in addition to people living in neighboring city of Gisenyi (Rwanda), in villages around (in RDC & Rwanda)

Nyiragongo permanent plume pushed westward by the dominant regional wind, and sometimes southward where Goma city is located. Nyiragongo lava lake has been active since May 2002, produces tons of gases and ash daily which are harmful to over 1.5 million people and the environment

An ML 3.8 earthquake was recorded last night night at 00:16 (Local Time) in Lake Kivu. Other small earthquakes have been happening too but they are too small to cause damages.
