Always worth reading Lynn Kuok on Southeast Asia. To me, the key line in her testimony is “Without a strong U.S. presence, the region’s strategic options will shrink . . .”

My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Myanmar, who have suffered so much and now have been hit by a devastating earthquake. I‘ve never known a more resilient society, but this is a terrible tragedy on top of everything else they have faced and continue to face.

Myanmar’s military has zero regard for the people. So, we, people of Myanmar, have ZERO trust in this junta. Now, lobbyists are trying to legitimize the junta again under the cover of a natural disaster. We have ZERO energy to debate what's obvious. Don't legitimize the junta.

Myanmar’s junta is still bombing in spite of a devastating earthquake and a ceasefire announced by some opponents in the face of the disaster, reports The Irrawaddy (Eng). Air raids even took place near the epicentre as well as northern Shan State, it said. #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar

Sadly, with few exceptions, US politics these days is not about solving problems. It’s all performative and trying to win “likes” and debate points, often through lies and obfuscation. This is particularly true for Trump and his Allie’s.

Congrats Khang Vu and Tita Sanglee on this thoughtful piece. It reminded me how much we need more writing and analysis on how Southeast Asian nations can work together - in ASEAN and bilaterally - to advance regional stability and avoid excessive big power influence.
