It’s scary to think about but babies and small children mostly drown at home in the bath or in the garden, in just a few cm of water. That's why our key message is to keep babies in arms’ reach in water. Learn more: capt.org.uk/drowning/ #DrowningPreventionWeek #DPW

Paddling pools are a great way to have fun and cool down in the warmer weather. But it’s important to remember little ones can drown in just a few cm of water. Please stay safe this summer. More water safety tips: capt.org.uk/drowning/ #DrowningPreventionWeek

The sand beneath a disposable BBQ can become very hot and retain heat for a while. Be sure to extinguish fully, then cool the area underneath by pouring water over it or covering with sand to prevent accidental burns to yourself, children, or pets.

Slushies contain glycerol to prevent it freezing solid. In high quantities, especially to under fives, glycerol can cause shock, hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) and loss of consciousness. Please do not give slushies to children under 5. And, limit older children to just one.

Firework-related injuries are already being seen in Scottish emergency departments. If you're aware of firework misuse, please report anonymously to Crimestoppers Scotland on 0800 555 111.

Sparklers should never be given to children under 5... they can become five times hotter than cooking oil. Yet our firework injuries audit found that they were (once again) the most common cause of firework injury in young children in 2023 #FireworkSafety
