Yesterday, I had a incredibly great time talking in the Pint of Science UK at the Barley Mow Pub (pintofscience.co.uk/event/cleaning…). Thanks to everybody who attended, and to the organisers for inviting us to share our passion for #coccolithophores!! 🌊🔬 University of Portsmouth
🇬🇧🔀 Our researcher Blanca Ausín (Passage ERC) is visiting University of Portsmouth, invited by Dr Dr Mariem Saavedra-Pellitero 🔬 to collaborate on an ongoing project. She’s just delivered a seminar and they’re now analyzing samples under the electron microscope. Exciting cross‑institutional work! 👏👏
See these tiny balls? They're different species of coccolithophores, calcifying algae 30x smaller than a grain of sand! 🔬 They play a MASSIVE role in the carbon cycle 🧵👇 📸SEM image by Joe Dunlop @PortsmouthUni w/ Dr Mariem Saavedra-Pellitero 🔬
