If you were born in 🇨🇦 or fortunate enough to live here in 2023, you have won one of life’s lotteries. Use that winning ticket to make the world a better place for the less fortunate, and help build a better stronger more tolerant Canada so others can share your good fortune

First paper from our SARE Program Pastured Beef Project with Dr. Sierra Young now published! The study found that rotationally grazed, perennial grasslands🌱 had healthier soil conditions compared with neighboring fields producing commodity corn for feedlot finishing.🌽

Just finished "Steak" by Mark Schatzker A man's search across the globe for the perfect steak. Part industry history, part travel, part insider view of beef production. Excellent read, has me asking questions. If the publishers want to replicate the study I am all in!

Those of you who’ve read my books know how important the sensory properties of food are to good health. If you want more research in this critical area, support a pioneering scientist in the “brain body connection” and vote for Dana Small. vote.muhcfoundation.com

People often say that ultra processed foods are engineered for plalatability. They are not. They are engineered for profit. We need to stop blaming palatability for the rise in obesity. The forces driving intake are varied, complex and often have nothing to do with pleasure.

Nutri-scores and other calorie-obsessed systems have it all wrong. The energy density of a meal is not what makes us overweight. We finetune & adjust our appetite and food intake accordingly. What makes us overeat is the way ultraprocessed foods trick our brain into overeating.

Are seed oils driving inflammation? Does consuming them cause diabetes, Alzheimer's, autism and obesity? Is it true seed oils are rancid and loaded with carcinogens? I presented the case against seed oils to a lipid expert. Here's what he had to say: markschatzker.substack.com/p/are-seed-oil…

There's a theory that seed oils crank up endocannabinoids, hijacking satiety receptors in the brain the same way cannabis does. I spoke to a scientist who tested it in mice to see if they would eat more and gain weight. Did they? markschatzker.substack.com/p/are-seed-oil…

Have you ever thought how strange onions are? They taste terrible on their own, but are a keystone ingredient in virtually every cuisine. Raw or cooked, onions are a flavour powerhouse. Now the bad news: Onions are becoming bland. And no one knows why. markschatzker.substack.com/p/something-is…
