To be clear, we are not going to make smart meters compulsory. Voluntary uptake is excellent, has reached over 60% and we are currently installing 85,000 per week. Consumers are increasingly being persuaded of the benefits.

District heating schemes (Heat networks) will be increasingly important in future years to help to bring down bills & improve our energy security. Hot water just arrives at your door, similar to the way gas does now, and you pay for what you use. telegraph.co.uk/business/2024/…

A shot in the arm for our battery industry as we’ve backed Invinity Energy Systems with £25mil to develop homegrown batteries. This is part of plan to make sure the UK has cheap, reliable energy.

He likened Brexiteers to Nazis; he gave oxygen to Grenfell Tower conspiracy theories; he constantly excused Corbynism; until recently he argued that Britain’s nuclear deterrent was unChristian; Lord Falconer had to rescue his disastrous piloting of legislation in the Blair years;

The thing that baffles me is that good and serious people have seen versions of what happened tonight in the US for eight years and are still surprised that people don’t see the world as they do. 1) Voters think “the economy” is “can I afford to live” NOT “we are doing better
