The word ‘unique’ is overused but it applies to BBC Singers Their ability to assimilate a composer’s voice & turn it into glorious sound is unmatched. From new commissions to light music, they make it all sound effortless. Another day of sad news for classical music in the UK.

A rare morning of hope for the future. Thank you so much to the children and staff of St Joseph's Catholic Primary School for your commitment to the performances of Carmen at English National Opera and for the wonderful performance this morning. If we have inspired you, know that you have inspired us too.

Good news about BBC Singers reprieve. But as with English National Opera this is a temporary solution. There is more to be done to secure their long term survival. I think meaningful consultation suggests a long discussion taking views from a wide range of people. Don’t you agree Arts Council England ?

This is @jen_wilson77 Wardrobe show manager English National Opera .A cover went on yesterday & while the show was going on Jen was quickly moving buttons & adding tabs to costumes to aid the singer’s performance. Part of her job, you might say, but her skill would be missed if she weren’t there

Attention all repetiteurs. This is an opportunity to come and work for English National Opera eno.org/about/careers/…

A highly impressive performance of ‘Music Makes Me’ by @TBMHMusic tonight at Royal Albert Hall involving over 1000 children. But the talk is about reducing the number of music hubs? As with the opera cuts no-one thinks this will improve access or standards in music education. Why?

Wow! What a prom that was last night. Bravo to everyone involved but especially BBC Singers - such effortless precision, bravura diction & pristine tuning. I’ve said it before, but it’s worth reiterating: this is a unique organisation that deserves to be celebrated & cherished.

If you are near the London Coliseum this evening, you could do worse than get a ticket to see one of the future stars of British opera give his debut performance in one of the pivotal roles of British opera. John Finden as Peter Grimes English National Opera

RIP Jane Bonner. Integral to the special atmosphere Opera North has always had, she made you feel welcome whether you were a star singer or a novice stagehand. Her love for the company & opera in general (except Turandot!) was immense. A lovely person who will be much missed.

How relevant is Mozart’s Magic Flute? I can think of no better work - especially in Simon McBurney’s all-encompassing production - that embodies the varied emotions the English National Opera orchestra, chorus and music staff are experiencing today. Their pride in their work is deeply humbling.

‘What we have loved, others will love, and we will teach them how’. Appropriate words for the celebration of David Swinson tonight. David, thank you for inspiring a generation - you are a fantastic advocate, encouraging young people to experience and enjoy all kinds of music.
