Thrilled to share our review (with Mireia Valles-Colomer and Nicola Segata) on "Human microbiome acquisition and transmission" just published Nature Reviews Microbiology

A paper claims a placenta microbiota but admits they "... could not include additional controls such as sequencing negative controls or viability assays". Without ruling out reagent contamination (the kitome) or “splashome,” the findings are meaningless. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

"Novel cross-feeding human gut microbes metabolizing tryptophan to indole-3-propionate" #GutMicrobiota modulation of #Tryptophan is important for gut barrier function, immunity and mental well being. Newest from Benoit Pugin and team. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Our protocol paper describing our 🤱🏼MOTILITY Mother-Child Cohort: a Danish prospective longitudinal cohort study of the #infant gut #microbiome, nutrition and bowel habits has been published in BMJ_Open ✨ bmjopen.bmj.com/content/15/6/e… Thanks to DK Frie Forsk.fond for funding our work 🙏

📣This is important! As a frequent reviewer of manuscripts on the neonatal fecal/meconium microbiome and breast milk microbiome I see this issue of sequencing contaminants way too often. Much needed with some guidelines on how to prevent this 👍. Nature Microbiology
