Slightly different but in the 10 years I worked in the SDLP stormont press office, most of the people we hired weren’t connected to the party (some joined later). And it provided an important perspective to our work.

An additional £50m from the British Government to help deliver Casement Park is significant and welcome. It vindicates the hard work of Ulster GAA on behalf of 250,000 members and countless more supporters. There is optimism around the project again. Let’s get it done.

There’s only one motivation for this: hate. No context, no external influence, no way to explain it all away. They thought vulnerable people were being given respite here and decided to burn the place down. It’s sick.

In a normal democracy, Gordon Lyons would be considering his position this morning. Publishing information about the movement of vulnerable people during public disorder is clearly a deeply reckless thing for anyone to do, let alone a government Minister.

This response is deficient. Politicians should be held accountable for their words, especially during public disorder. Brushing it under the carpet sends the wrong message to people who are literally being burned out of their homes.

I think it’s a pretty uncontentious thing to say that Nigel Farage as British Prime Minister would have a material impact on how undecideds think about the future of this place and how our shared interests are best served. The sneering at the suggestion is interesting though đŸ€”

No, MPs haven't legalised abortion up to birth. That lie was spread here by many who should know better. The change is about saving a handful of vulnerable women from trauma and prison. Women about whom those people do not even think. New writing from me open.substack.com/pub/goodalland

Packed room at St Mary’s today for a really interesting (and refreshingly honest!) FĂ©ile an Phobail conversation with Leo Varadkar & Ireland's Future - TodhchaĂ na hÉireann. All these discussions, including with New Ireland Commission are ideas driven. It’s really great to be a part of.

I’ve co-signed the Reasoned Amendment to decline a second reading to the Welfare and PIP Bill alongside more than 100 other MPs. The bill is a cruel and unconscionable attack on vulnerable people. We’ve tried to raise concerns, including directly with the Prime Minister 👇

BBC news has a piece about things said by rappers at Glastonbury. They show it ahead of a piece on the latest bombs dropped on Gazan children today. Where has our perspective gone?

I voted against proscribing Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation today. By every measure they are a campaign group, not terrorists. Meanwhile the campaign of murder and genocide continues in Gaza and the West Bank. That’s where the focus should be.

Fair play to the Talkback team for pressing parties on the asbestos bonfire again today. Press offices weighing up going on or not will be happy to endure 10 seconds of ‘we invited party X to come on the show but no one was available.’ Days of scrutiny changes the calculation.

Picking on kids, always a great look. What a mind-numbing own goal in a week when sport should be bringing people across the island together.
