Yesterday was already my last day University of Groningen and Membrane Enzymology. What a wonderful year - met a lot of very nice people and fantastic scientists. And also had some time to enjoy the beautiful city of Groningen. Thanks to all who have been part of it!

We have been a bit quiet lately, doubting if Twitter is still a good platform for science, but this one we really wanted to share. Chancie T - chanciet.bsky.social and the rest of the team show how ECF #transporters shed off a subunit by #cryoEM, Cristina Paulino nature.com/articles/s4146…

My first paper with Cristina Paulino lab just published in nature 🤯: Cryo-EM structures of the sperm-specific SLC9C1, a unique hyperpolarisation-activated transporter! Excellent work by first author Valeria Kalienkova 🇺🇦🌻 - glad to be part of this team! nature.com/articles/s4158… #CryoEM #b3d

I was often asked what I was working on in Cristina Paulino group. Well, here it is! 🥁🥳 What a fascinating combination of ion channel and secondary active transporter domains in one protein! Great teamwork with Martin Peter Jan Rheinberger nature.com/articles/s4158…

1/10 With great pride I present our newest #CryoEM work pub. in nature. The 1st reported secondary-active transporter directly activated by membrane voltage. Full credit to the amazing Valeria Kalienkova 🇺🇦🌻, Martin Peter & Jan Rheinberger 🧵👇🏽 for more info nature.com/articles/s4158…

The fun part of having a new protein structure: Making #SciArt a #b3d! Check out our newest nature paper from the Cristina Paulino lab about a sperm-specific, voltage-gated transporter! And thanks to Brady Johnston for #MolecularNodes! nature.com/articles/s4158…

🚨 Our next TRAP transporter story from @gha14 lab is published: We used cysteine-cross linking to trap conformational states and analysed domain interactions with sm-TIRF microscopy. Again, very nice collaboration with Kubitscheck Lab and Gavin H Thomas ! nature.com/articles/s4146…

More beautiful data from Martin Peter & @gha14 using Kubitscheck Lab cool sm-TIRF setup to drill down on conformational changes in the TRAP transport cycle. Biology at York York Biomedical Research Institute - inspired by @Chris_mulligan work on VcINDY :-) #sialicacid #TRAPtransporter

The last bit of my work in Cristina Paulino lab finally out in NatureStructMolBiol 🥳 Really cool collaboration with @Lynagh_Lab and then PhD student Mowgli Dandamudi, which worked out a lot better than I could have hoped in the months I had left in the lab! 😊

Check out our newest work on ASCT2. From the long lasting collaboration with my dear colleague Dirk Slotboom Membrane Enzymology with the fantastic Anna Borowska leading the work in collaboration with the Marrink lab Siewert-Jan Marrink 1/2 👇🏼
