At Ulster University's Derry campus (the conference venue) a view towards the Foyle estuary with a glimpse of the Peace Bridge, & the Martha Magee building. Also photos taken at dusk of the bridge & from the city walls looking towards the cathedral

Heidelberg itself has a magnificent setting as well as being an ancient university city. Views from the castle & from the top of the funicular that runs uphill from there; also the Neckar looking towards the Altbrücke & the castle seen from the Philosophenweg across the river

More from Heidelberg: an appropriate street name for a university town, dusk on the edge of town, tower of the Heilggleistkirche echoed in architecture across the road, & carving of a figure carrying a key on the corner of a building now occupied by a Scandi lifestyle store

The University of Mannheim, which originated as a college of commerce in 1907, is based in the city's Baroque palace & has done a fine job of creating contemporary learning spaces in this historic building. Mozart is said to have played the organ in the palace church

DHBW, Baden Württemberg's vocational university, provided the venue for MOBTS in a converted light industrial space in Eppelheim on the fringes of Heidelberg. A great conference with lots of practical ideas & collective enthusiasm for management education

While the Bayeux Tapestry is in the news today it's good to see that the V&A has this rather wonderful piece of advertising art in its collection collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O540467/b…

In fake nostalgia (which I won't amplify) latest Twitter has a photo of a flooded Putney embankment from 1975. So somebody's popped up claiming that nobody worried about flooding in those days. Which is clearly untrue given that construction of the Thames Barrier started in 1974

Dear Android operating system. When I tick the box saying I don't want an active lock screen that uses my mobile data to stream images I don't need, I'm not expecting to change my mind so don't pop up a day later pushing me to set up an active lock screen

Afternoon in Greenwich: 1st visit to the Cutty Sark in the (quite a few) years since it was raised & the dry dock glazed, the art deco town hall contrasting with the library next door, & juxtaposition of a merry-go-round with the domed entrance to the foot tunnel under the Thames

Took a boat back from Greenwich to London Bridge, which was v civilised. Here's a selection of views including the Shard & London Bridge, also a boat heading downstream so in the opposite direction to our journey

Interesting article (paywalled) about dramatising the story of Fred Goodwin at ft.com/content/b46b92… . Inconsequential but entertaining trivia which I haven't seen mentioned in press coverage is that Fred Goodwin & Madonna were born 1 day apart

Spam/scam call today from somebody claiming to follow up a letter sent by post, ostensibly to review life insurance, which would gather information from somebody gullible. It came from a (presumably spoofed) landline number belonging to a local radio station in the N of England
