🚨Now out in Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency! Here, we argue that many risk factors for delinquency can be categorized as "harsh" or "unpredictable." Both can lead adolescents to perceive the future as less bright & controllable - and promote short-term mindsets, which are linked with delinquency.

Hey search committees, requiring letters of recommendation prior to an interview is wasteful. The competitive job market means applying to 30+ jobs. It’s not fair to my LORs, especially if you aren’t serious about hiring me. Continued in comments

Why isn’t there a central webpage, whereby all job market candidates can upload a link to their papers, websites & topics? Departments could then search for desired specialisms. This would be a fantastic public good, Expanding on the initiative of Jennifer Doleac.

Look at how physicians diagnose more children with ADHD on Halloween (the red line in the middle of the figure). The authors hypothesize that docs are more likely to diagnose kids on this day simply because kids are excited for Halloween. Fascinating!

I am especially proud that this year, USF Criminology Dept. made 5 offers to students to join our PhD program and all 5 were accepted (100% acceptance rate). In my view, this speaks to the quality of our program and its upward trajectory.
