See that blue? That's literally a nebula that contains floating diamonds. The light scatters through it in a process known as Rayleigh Scattering, giving it that characteristic blue color. The universe is amazing, and it's right at our fingertips.

Welp- just broke my old record for longest exposure time for a photograph. 119 hours of exposure on one of the largest nebulae in the universe, the Tarantula Nebula.

Two years ago, I teamed up with fellow astrophotographer and planetary scientist Connor Matherne to capture the most ridiculously detailed moon image we could. Over the last few months we put our heads together again to come up with something even clearer. Behold:

Woke up to 5000 followers- that's amazing. For those that are brand new because of my moon photo collab with Andrew McCarthy, I thought it would be worth showing you mainly what I do. I am a deep space astrophotographer.

My photo of the Trifid Nebula, a small nebula located 4,000 light years away. While technical details are cool and all, I think it looks like forbidden cotton candy and I really haven't gotten past that.

MOON SHOT. A planetary scientist from Mandeville teamed up with another “astrophotographer” from Arizona to capture this incredible image of the moon. It shows the lunar surface in spectacular detail like we’ve never seen it before. 6 ⁦WWL-TV⁩ ⁦Connor Matherne

I used 24 hours of exposure to create this photo of the Witch's Head nebula. Always amazes me what beautiful colors are contained within the swirling gas and dust of the cosmos.
