So 6.3 TB data size reduction. But of course we store two instances, in two data tape libraries, so it’s really 12.6 TB storage cost saving. LTO6 yields 2.8 TB usable capacity, so in one day, using #FOSS, we saved 4 LTO data tapes. If we repeat each day, one month = 120 tapes. 😍

Yes, very much. YouTube is actively using the technology for example. A lot of public and private archives worldwide are turning to Matroska as well.

I kind of miss the days of #digipres drama where MOV and MKV were battling for supremacy in BFI National Archive. Game over, #FFV1 Matroska.org won... even those DPX are FFV1 MKV, thanks to MediaArea #RAWcooked. MPEG-TS are plentiful from off-air telly, but they’re so wee!

It looks like 20TB of #FFV1 Matroska.org this week but thanks to MediaArea #RAWcooked the DPX are also preserved as MKV... so 28 TB of FFV1 MKV ingested this week in BFI National Archive
