Today we honor James Byrd Jr., who was brutally murdered on this day 27 years ago. This year marks the 16th anniversary of the signing of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act into law by President Barack Obama.

Nine years ago today, 49 members of the LGBTQ+ and Latinx communities were killed at the Pulse Nightclub shooting. Today we remember and recognize this loss. The Matthew Shepard Foundation continues to fight to erase hate and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community.

Five years ago today the Supreme Court Case Bostock v. Clayton County was decided in a 6-3 vote that strengthened protections for LGBTQ+ employees across the country. Today, we use this case to remind ourselves of the importance of fighting to erase hate.

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of marriage equality of the Supreme Court decision which legalized same-sex marriage. Jim Obergefell won his lawsuit, Obergefell v. Hodges, and solidified victories for LGBTQ+ couples across the country.
