A second has factory job openings down from 513K to 381K this year. A third (broader, different method) has a drop from 15.7 million jobs in 2018 to 15.0 million in 2024 - but within this total hourly-wage factory jobs are down by a million while salaried & other jobs up 300,000.

So US factories seem to be adding computers, robots and human experts, but scaling back line jobs. Tariffs won't change this - but will lower living standards for workers in restaurants, hotels, malls, salons & other services.
