Indeed, IGAD Secretariat takes on the responsibility of coordinating the inter-RECs/RMs platform towards enhanced regional integration, at a truly momentous juncture. Bravo Ecowas - Cedeao for setting the bar high and for the many accomplishments this past year.

Enjoyed a vibrant exchange w/General Secretary of AACC Dr. Fidon Mwombeki on collaboration based on IGAD-AACC cooperation agreement. The AACC approach of addressing peace & security challenges through the prism of development using local resources was quite refreshing.

May Africa Day 2025 represent a turning point for Africa, Africans and all people of African descent, as so eloquently enunciated in this message.

We stand with the AU in supporting reparative justice, social & climate equity, and African-led healing.

Indeed, it was an honour to have hosted what was ultimately productive discussion aimed at a joined up approach between the AU and RECs/RMs on resource mobilization.

It was indeed a great opportunity to continue the work of perfecting our union by ensuring an enhanced role for RECs & RMs in the AU architecture and in the conduct of its meetings. IGAD Secretariat is appreciative of the African Union willingness to engage & to take action.

An honour to be hosted by H.E. Mahmoud Ali youssouf to the first ever working lunch with Permanent Representatives to the African Union to discuss the full operationalization of the Protocol on Relations with RECs & RMs. We welcome this reset of an important relationship.
