Don't miss our May #FamilyLawHour tomorrow at 8pm with our guest host Mavis Amonoo-Acquah who joins us to address the recent Law Commission recommendations for reform to #surrogacy laws. Balancing rights in surrogacy cases is challenging - to what extent will these changes help?

Looking forward to hosting FamilyLawHour tonight. We’ve got some great #surrogacy reform questions lined up, so grab your favourite Tuesday night beverage and come along to share your views tonight at 8pm!

Q1: A central aim of the reforms is to incentivise intended parents in England, Wales & Scotland who are considering surrogacy to enter into arrangements here, rather than go abroad. Do you think they go far enough to successfully achieve this aim? Why/why not? #familylawhour

Q2: The new pathway will not apply to international surrogacy arrangements. Do you think international surrogacy arrangements should have been included in the new pathway? #familylawhour

POLL: The report recommends that the court should be able to dispense with the requirement that the surrogate consents to a parental order, but only where the welfare of the children requires this. Do you agree with this recommendation? #familylawhour

In Re C (Surrogacy: Consent) Peter Jackson LJ said “the right of a surrogate not to provide consent is a pillar of the legislation” [61]. This recommendation seeks to change that if the child’s welfare requires it. Is this a good step? Vote below 👇🏾 #surrogacy #familylawhour

Q3: Where parties to a surrogacy arrangement are required to apply for a parental order, it's recommended that the 6 month application time limit remains in place, but with provision for late applications. Should this time limit have been dispensed with altogether? #familylawhour

Should the proposed #surrogacy reforms have left room for parity in the case of single, non-biological IPs? Vote below! 👇🏾

Q4:The proposed reforms don't permit double donor surrogacy arrangements, as at least one intended parent (or the single intended parent) must be biologically related to the child. Should the proposed reforms have been extended to include double-donor arrangements? #familylawhour

Excellent day at #alccon23 with a particularly thought-provoking session on post-adoption birth family contact, & a wonderfully frank talk by Judith AM Denton about the Black care experience. Is the family justice system doing enough? Already looking forward to the 2024 event!

Great to be led by Mehvish Chaudhry in this interesting case, which looked at the withdrawal of a 1980 Hague Convention application and examined Article 16 of the 1996 Hague Convention, regarding the recognition of parental responsibility rights
