We've just learned that the individual responsible for Sunday night’s incident has been apprehended and charged by MPD. On Sunday night, around 9:30 pm, a man jumped a wall leading into our subdivision. We now know that he walked straight to our home.

Memphis, we have to change how we talk to and about each other. Disagreement must never lead to violence. That cannot be our norm. Let’s do better. Let’s raise our discourse, reduce the hate, and protect one another — no matter our beliefs.

Let’s reclaim our strength as one community. Let’s choose love.

This week, I also plan to nominate Protect Our Aquifer's Sarah Houston to join the Air Pollution Board. She has dedicated her career to protecting our most precious asset, the aquifer. Her perspective is crucial as industrial demands evolve & place new pressure on natural resources.

Following this demolition, the construction of Shelby County Government's first mental health facility is set to begin. This marks a new phase in transforming how we tackle public safety by getting individuals needed care and out of the overcrowded jail.

We are in the midst of reviewing the various amendments from last night’s marathon Commission meeting, but I am very pleased that the Commission approved funding for the focused crime lab proposed by DA Mulroy and yours truly, and that they adopted our proposed tax rate of $2.69.

Nelson Mandela called solitary confinement the most forbidding aspect of prison. Shelby County Government now adheres to the Mandela Rules to prohibit solitary confinement at the Div. of Corrections. Inducing anxiety & mental illness aren't punishments we should condone in 2025.
