Homelessness is the most pressing issue facing communities up and down California. Thanks to the State's #HHAP funding, we've expanded shelter, outreach, and housing—and we’re seeing results. Now that progress is at risk. Read my op-ed with Sac Mayor Kevin McCarty: latimes.com/opinion/story/…

See the Big City Mayors' response to the state legislature's budget proposal which cuts funding for HHAP Round 7 in half, threatening to stall our momentum and unravel years of progress.

⚠️ Cutting State HHAP funding puts our progress on homelessness at risk. ⚠️ My fellow California Big City Mayors and I are urging the Legislature to restore full #HHAP funding—because pulling back now would unravel years of work and push more people back onto the streets.

📢 The Senate Public Safety Committee has approved #AB379. This bill led by Assemblymember Nick Schultz, which I proudly sponsor, strengthens protections for 16- and 17-year-olds, supports survivors of sex trafficking, and holds predators accountable. #Forward #ForAllofUs

We’ve turned a former hotel in #MissionValley into 161 affordable rental homes with wraparound services for people who’ve experienced homelessness. This is proof that when we work together—City, County, State, and federal—we can make real progress to reduce homelessness.

The House has passed the HALT Fentanyl Act—a major step toward cracking down on this dangerous drug. This bill permanently puts fentanyl-related substances at the strictest level of regulation, which will help keep this drug off our streets. apnews.com/article/fentan…

The current state budget DOES NOT include new funding for #HHAP. Without funding San Diego could see 426 shelter beds and 30% of our street outreach teams eliminated. Contact your legislators and tell them to fund progress and invest in HHAP Round 7.

20k + demonstrators are gathered peacefully downtown, primarily along Harbor Dr. No arrests reported. Our motorcycle officers are managing rolling closures as the group moves — helping protect protesters and minimize traffic impact. Thank you, San Diego, for keeping it peaceful.

This week, the City of San Diego is proudly commemorating #Juneteenth—June 19, the day we honor the end of slavery in America.    Today, we raised the Juneteenth flag at City Hall.    It’s a visible reminder that San Diego is committed to creating a more just and equitable future.
