The ole buzzards made their first appearance a couple days ago. The trend has been the last few years we have an early window with favorable weather to get some seed in the ground and it looks that way again this year. Keeping my eye on a potential cool down over Easter weekend.

ā€˜25 is a go! Nice to see some green crops again. šŸ¤žšŸ»for some timely rains and the 89 year cycle isn’t quite as ugly as it was in the 30’s… Time will tell. Good luck!

Just shy of 120 GDU’s in this corn on corn plot & seeing emergence. Nice root to shoot ratios on plants, shows good hormonal balance. I like to see the soil sticking to roots as it tells me they are healthy & have good activity. AgriGold

Seeing more wireworm pressure than in years past. Mostly on early planted fields with cooler soils that took a little longer to emerge. I typically see minor feeding every year but this looks to lead to some stand loss. Estimating 3-5% of plants with injury.

Unfortunate washing led to a interesting observation. Picture of anhydrous spring applied with a coulter machine. Soil is very hard and blocky where injected and mellow about 3ā€ outside of the band.

Some minor cutworm activity. Good reminder to evaluate fields regularly to understand what final stands are achieved and the reasons for them.

Good ole river bottom ground where you can find 5 different soil types in the top 3’ with one core. It can be challenging with high pH, coarse sand & gumbo soils but also productive with some favorable conditions.

The switch from extremely dry conditions to the more recent wet pattern has made pH flare. One thing I’m noticing is where residue is completely covering the soil IDC symptoms in soybeans are way less severe compared to bare ground. Oxidizing effect from the sun is my correlation

Last plot is in the ground. Challenging planting conditions early this spring to more favorable late with some very welcome rains. A big thanks as always to our cooperators! AgriGold

Lots of opinions on tillers in corn. My thoughts are it’s a solid indicator that the plant is in good shape & is building to meet its potential for the environment. Tillers can also be a reserve for the plant later in the year & add leaf area to capture additional sunlight.

Noticing some leafhoppers in this field. With the concern of corn stunt from last year & all the strong south wind and soil blowing this past weekend it’s got me vigilant. These things are hard to identify. However, I don’t believe they are corn leaf hoppers.

Good visual of sugar accumulation (anthocyanin) in the leaf with restricted movement. In this case it’s due to the leaf being kinked over. I’ve also observed it later in the growing season if the ear is damaged or removed.
