Running bilateral trade surplus/deficits with different countries is the way it should be. Trying to eliminate each one is simply stupid. I have a trade deficit with my grocer, a trade surplus with my employer. I am not sure it would be a great idea for me to work for my grocer.

Excited to share that my JMP is out at The Review of Economics and Statistics (REStat) 🥳🥳! Using the centralized algorithm for offers to primary schools in London, I show that parents select schools that improve the student-school match.

In two weeks time, Gabrielli and I will discuss *Babygang: youth, crime & what to do* at the Festival Internazionale dell’Economia in Turin. I’m very much looking forward to this!

Debating with Franco Gabrielli, former head of the Italian police, at the International Festival of Economics 2025 about the drivers ans consequences of youth crime in England and Italy has been a pleasure and a privilege. I learnt a lot from this exchange!
