🧬 Exciting news from the All Wales Medical Genomics Service! We've just upgraded our Illumina DRAGEN servers to version 4.2.7, opening up new possibilities for our genomic analyses while maintaining the same high sensitivity and precision. Here’s what it allows us to do: (1/7)

🔍 The new STR caller in DRAGEN 4.2.7 offers enhanced accuracy and greater target range. This upgrade allows us to begin exploring improved detection of short tandem repeats, which are crucial for understanding many genetic disorders. (2/7)

🧬 We now have specialist region callers for challenging genes like SMA and GBA. These updates enable us to start investigating hard-to-sequence areas with greater sensitivity, enhancing our ability to detect critical variants. (3/7)

🌐 With the introduction of graph genomes, we can leverage a more comprehensive framework for mapping reads. This new capability allows us to begin examining better variant calling and analysis, especially in regions with high genetic diversity. (4/7)

💊 Additionally, DRAGEN 4.2.7 supports specialist genotyping of pharmacogenomic genes. This feature helps us explore how genetic variations affect individual responses to drugs, paving the way for personalized medicine. (5/7)

🔬 Importantly, these upgrades enable us to start validating these advanced features, not to report them just yet. This is a significant step towards integrating these capabilities into our routine analyses. (6/7)
