My first swift of the year - a sight to gladden the heart! Its name 'Apus apus' - from the Greek 'a' (without) 'pous' (foot) - comes from the ancient idea that they never land & therefore have no feetšŸ¦ā€ā¬› It is a plausible myth - no other bird spends so much of its life airbornešŸ¦ā€ā¬›

I’m giving a talk tomorrow about Pebble Of The Day, buses etc and reading poems at the Filey Literature Festival. I’ll also be talking about the novel I’m writing about a young gay BrontĆ« obsessed postman with a secret. #PebbleOfTheDay #PebbleOfTheDay1000 #BeachFinds #Filey

Wow. What a night. What. A. Night. 58 people through the door, 24 organisations represented, and another £97.09 in the kitty. But above all, so much joy and connection. More properly tagged photos tomorrow, but for now, enjoy this small selection.

In summer, light extends further each day. We call this lingering daylight the simmer dim. To walk in the simmer dim is to be suspended between day and night. In the stillness it seems worlds combine, boundaries of the everyday are thinner and there is magic everywhere #Shetland
