Its official! I'm so honored to have been promoted to Full Professor Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior Brown Emergency Medicine Brown Pediatrics . Reaching that final promotion level feels a bit like receiving my PhD. A bit surreal to think about how a part of my academic journey is now "achieved."

I especially appreciate Michael Armey 's commentary about understanding that depression & other mental health symptoms are risk factors is not enough. At least 1 in 5 Americans will have major depression in their lifetimes & not everyone who considers suicide is depressed.

Michael Armey Also, for many individuals the intensity (and intentionality) of suicidality varies greatly over time. Knowing that someone has thoughts of suicide does not tell us *when* they are at greatest risk. We need to know when to intervene as much as we need to know how to intervene!

Interesting take. “When timeliness is taken seriously, it often feels like a generational clash. Now, the boomers and Gen X-ers may be misguided about a lot of things, but I think they’re on the right track with this one.”
