Rwanda is acting quickly and aggressively, but the numbers in this #Marburg outbreak are rising daily. Now up to 49 confirmed cases and 12 deaths. Hope we'll see them turning the tide soon.

I can’t overemphasize how incredible it is that Rwanda went from announcing Marburg cases just over a week ago to getting frontline providers vaccinated today. The amount of work needed to make this happen is massive. Really, really impressive, all around.

Good thread explaining why improving indoor air quality, although potentially beneficial in numerous ways, is unlikely to be a panacea for respiratory disease transmission

WHO producing 3 candidate vaccine viruses (for human vaccines) against 2344b. Even if 2.3.4.4b viruses do not turn pandemic; such vaccines may be useful for the next waves in the coming decades. "Stockpiling A(H5) vaccines just makes sense." 👉nature.com/articles/s4159…

Our new study in JAMA Network Open: Long-term fatigue isn't a major issue for mild infections. Using the Fatigue Assessment Scale, we found little difference between infected & non-infected groups post-infection. Hospitalized patients had 23% higher fatigue scores.

I didn't think I needed to say anything about this paper but I am frankly baffled by how skewed the explanations of its findings have been: journalofinfection.com/article/S0163-… tl;dr- nothing in this study suggests Novavax is better than mRNA A brief thread 🧵

Novavax remains a good option for boosting those who have a hard time with the side effects of mRNA, but once more, no data indicates it is in any meaningful way better in terms of protection than either mRNA vaccine. Eric Topol This is 2020 unvaccinated data In Australia in a highly covid vaccinated population, our rates of ischaemic heart disease in 2023 at an all time low

Rwanda reports no new #Marburg cases today & no additional deaths. Three more people have recovered. Ministry of Health | Rwanda says 346 doses of the Sabin Vaccine Institute's experimental vaccine have been administered. Also says there is no evidence of community transmission. 🤞

The memory of the punitive and unscientific 2021 Omicron travel bans targeting 7 southern African nations is still very fresh. If the world wants better transparency and coordination, it will need to re-assess the knee-jerk and stigmatizing response to outbreaks.

A new paper being hyped shows that if you were unlucky enough to have covid as an adult with no immunity, then you may have (or have had) increased risk of CVS disease. But to claim that infections now = increased risk, well the data clearly doesn't agree. abs.gov.au/statistics/hea…

The phoney "20%" prevalence of long covid in children is having another run. The origin is a science-illiterate journalist from Medscape. At best, she misinterpreted a study. But perhaps she's agendized & lied. 1 in 5 of the *study cohort* had LC It was not a random sample! 1/
