In the last 60 days, the Lower Midwest has been exceptionally wet and the Upper Midwest has mostly been wetter than normal. In between? Not so much. Parts of IA, MO, IL and a bit of WI/IN have precip deficits between 3 - 6”. #Drought has expanded. drought.gov NOAA

Preliminary data from Spring reveals temperatures were slightly above normal for most of the region. As for precipitation, Kentucky was most anomalous w/ over 150-175% of normal precipitation in the center of the state & near to slightly below normal heading north and west.

INTENSE SMOKE [thread]: A Madison monitoring site reported an air quality index (AQI) of 171 this morning due to concentrations of PM2.5 from wildfire smoke. PM2.5 is tiny particulate matter that is 2.5 microns in diameter — a typical strand of hair is about 70 microns! #wiwx

The heat is going to be on in multiple locations, and that means heat index will be rising too! So you may ask---what are the probabilities of heat index values above 100°F in June for many Midwest cities? In many locations, less than 20%! mrcc.purdue.edu/clim/heatIndex…

Let's talk about the upcoming heatwave. Here's a timeline of when the heat wave will start. Saturday will feel like another season with oppressive heat and humidity values. The heat will then continue through at least Monday. Overnight lows will also be oppressively hot. (1/3)
