America's moral legitimacy matters, not just as a nebulous form of goodness, but as a tangible way to improve our country's security, prosperity, and standing. The more we fritter away America's moral legitimacy, the more we weaken our near- and long-term prospects.

Beijing will reap a propaganda windfall from Washington's recent policy choices. They are skillfully portraying the U.S. as a malign hegemon, a black hat on the world scene. China, in turn, will capture more influence, advantage, & opportunities as the U.S. displaces itself.

America is being ripped by leaders who are failing to identify the ties that bind us, the overarching values we share, and what we stand for as a nation. Absent a winning, true, and inspiring national identity we can all rally behind, America will be less than it could be.

Be careful what qualities you choose to exhibit as a person and who you support in positions of power. High-character people inspire, unite, and constructively get things done. Low-character people divide, degrade, and act destructively at every turn. #LeadwithIronIntegrity

China leads the US as a maritime power because they recognized in the 1980s that robust shipbuilding of warships plus commercial, coast guard, maritime militia, and fishing fleets would enable it to be a global power. A US maritime revival is overdue. youtube.com/watch?v=2vw4Rw…

Why is Xi Jinping still so confident in China's trajectory? Hint: it's about how fast a country accumulates instruments of power and how promptly & expertly they combine those instruments to shape things in its favor. More in my panel response here:

America's adversaries now have wide-open running room to lure disgruntled former federal workers poorly treated by DOGE. Haste is laying waste to security priorities. It's not the goal you pursue, but how you pursue it that matters greatly. 4 minutes of truth here:

Quality communications can bring clarity out of confusion, inspiration out of indifference, enthusiasm out of apathy, loyalty out of resistance, and unity out of division. A leader’s success or failure often hinges on this singular skill. mikestudeman.substack.com/p/a-leadership…

Spot-on analysis and extraordinarily well-packaged vids and pics to describe innovative PLA over-the-shore landing capabilities. I can personally attest that Captain (ret) Tom Shugart is one of our nation’s top China watchers. A must read: wsj.com/video/series/o…

This short leadership note is on competition in the workplace and the counterintuitive thing that actually makes someone stand out among their peers. open.substack.com/pub/mikestudem…
