@ResearchAether The University of Sheffield That’s NOT what we’re saying here, our research shows how much carbon is moved into fungi in soil - that’s how much is there at any one moment. We dont what happens to the carbon longer term - does it get stored? Eaten by microbes? Respired back into the air? More research needed

In total shock from today's news that I am youngest scientist to EVER receive the Spinoza Prize NWO Nieuws This award is recognition of the radically brilliant teams I work w/ Amsterdam Institute for Life and Environment AMOLF MiCRop - Microbial Imprinting for Crop Resilience SPUN Fungi in the spotlight! vu.nl/nl/nieuws/2023…

Beautiful profile of our founding collaborator Merlin Sheldrake by @Kahnifer for @NYTMag. We are enjoying being “startled into curiosity” as we explore underground ecosystems together with Fungi Foundation and all our global collaborators. nytimes.com/2023/06/08/mag…

“Taxonomic” and “genomic fungi” are in mismatch; early diverging fungi closer to unicellular protists in gene content than to Dikarya. A chapter closed in our lab with this NatureEcoEvo paper. #1000FungalGenomes Project. Thread, 1/n. rdcu.be/dfbNL

Brand new from Michael Van Nuland, Caroline Daws, PhD, Posy Busby, mykophile, Joseph Bailey, and Jennifer Schweitzer in Nature Microbiology: A fantastic above and belowground atlas of Populus fungal biodiversity at a continental scale. nature.com/articles/s4156…

A new Resource provides an atlas of leaf, root and soil fungi associated with five Populus tree species throughout their geographic ranges within the contiguous United States. Congrats to Michael Van Nuland Caroline Daws, PhD Posy Busby & colleagues nature.com/articles/s4156…

Out now in Nature Microbiology: Above- and belowground fungal biodiversity of Populus trees on a continental scale Michael Van Nuland Caroline Daws, PhD Posy Busby & colleagues nature.com/articles/s4156…

Fungi & Law: Join us this Thursday to discuss protecting fungi with environmental law, panel hosted by the MOTH Project and @ClimateLitX at NYU Law with SPUN panelists Michael Van Nuland and Merlin Sheldrake. Join here for free: nyu.zoom.us/webinar/regist…

Successful microbiome engineering in agricultural fields. Our new paper in Nature Microbiology demonstrates that large-scale inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi works and can promote crop yield up to 40%. nature.com/articles/s4156… @SteffiLutz; @NBodenhausen; @KSchlaeppi

Ever wonder how climate change is going to affect symbiotic interactions? In this new U.S. National Science Foundation funded work w/ Clara Qin, PhD Michael Van Nuland Peter Pellitier Kai Zhu we project future range mismatches for EcM #fungi and their host trees pnas.org/doi/abs/10.107…

More from the team today! "Climate mismatches with ectomycorrhizal fungi contribute to migration lag in North American tree range shifts." Michael Van Nuland Clara Qin, PhD Peter Pellitier Kai Zhu mykophile in PNASNews pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
