Hawk-moths from my garden light trap. If anyone doubts that our gardens are full of life, colour and fascinating creatures even at night, then I would urge them to switch on a UV bulb and be prepared to be amazed! Mind-blowing! #MothsMatter #LoveNature

Finally got round to downloading my pics from Spain last month. We found some top plants including this special one - Gennaria diphylla. A lovely little orchid famously common in the steamy laurel forests of the Canaries - it also has a penchant for Western Med pine woods.👌

It's hard to describe how many Four-spotted Chasers there were at Thorne Moor today. There were hundreds in every sheltered patch of reeds. I saw several thousand and only covered a fraction of the reserve. No wonder there are so many Hobbies!

Pheasant's-eye Adonis annua - a critically endangered arable plant growing in vast numbers on an estate in the #FarmerCluster, due to specific habitat management by the Gamekeeper and estate after finding one lone plant last year. One year later today we counted c51 plants!

It may not look much to the casual observer, but Dense-flowered Orchid is the main event on a visit to Ireland. Yesterday we counted 80+ on a spectacular hillside in Co. Fermanagh, today 17 more in an extensive dune system in Co. Donegal. Our timing was perfect too👌

Early Marsh Orchid (Dactylorhiza incarnata var. pulchella) 21.05.22. The New Forest population of this species has a high percentage of pure white plants - often outnumbering the more typical magenta form.

1/2. Some sad news to report. On Friday, the Late Spider Orchids at Folkestone and probably on Sunday Morning, approx 10 Burnt Tip Orchids at Mount Caburn, Lewes were stolen. Landowners and the Police have been informed. If you have any information that can help in solving

A remarkable count of 2,540 Greater Butterfly Orchids was made recently by the Vale Landscape Heritage Trust across several of their managed orchards in Worcestershire. A fantastic privilege to see these & other species yesterday 😀 great work 👍 they are proud of their orchids!

Second excellent Epipactis find in two days! Chloe Pritchard discovered two E. leptochila in the Wye valley, only the second time the species has been recorded in Herefordshire 👍👏👊

Gave it our best shot but failed to find any vireos, catharus, dendroica or other nearctic vagrants on Barra today. Only thing we saw from North American forests was this scroll of birch bark washed up on the beach. It was probably home to some of those birds when it was growing!
