Getting paid to watch baseball, specifically the Minnesota Twins for the Star Tribune. No, I can't believe it, either.

Byron Buxton is in today’s Twins lineup, but it sounds like that may change. Bruised elbow from last night’s HBP likely still sore.

Twins going to the pen. Simeon Woods Richardson pulled after allowing one hit, one walk and no runs through 5 innings on only 53 pitches. Brock Stewart in with Twins leading, 1-0.

When this former NBA writer switched to baseball, Scott, a fellow Pioneer Press alum, could not have been a more helpful source. Who/what/where? Scott was so generous in helping me figure it out. RIP man, and thanks so much.

Perhaps just out of habit, the grounds crew is covering the infield shortly before a Twins game. Rain on the way at Comerica Park in Detroit, but forecasts say it shouldn’t be a lengthy rain.

Byron Buxton stole 2B in 1st inning, his 20th consecutive successful steal (15-for-15 this year) dating back 13 months. He’s one of 4 Twins ever to steal 20 in a row — and he’s done it 3 times. He’s 41-for-43 since Sept. 1, 2021, and the 2 CS were back-to-back last April/May.

Whew, it’s worse than I thought. According to Stathead, Ober’s 14 HRs allowed in June are tied for 2nd-most in a calendar month in MLB history. He’s 6th ever to allow 14. Only pitcher ever to give up more: Pedro Ramos of Senators — the Twins’ forefathers — with 17 in June 1957.

The Twins are also placing RHP Bailey Ober on the 15-day injured list with a left hip impingement. LHP Kody Funderburk has been recalled to replace him. Not sure yet who takes Ober’s start Friday vs. Rays.

In their last 26 plate appearances with bases loaded since June 8, Twins are 1-for-21 (.048) with 2 walks, 2 sac flies and 1 HBP. For the season, Twins are 11-for-61 with bases loaded (.180), worst in the majors. Buxton 4-7 w/ 11 RBIs, but Correa 0-10, Jeffers 0-6.
