Everyone, even before the pandemic, was addicted to the constant drip-feed of bad news, when one disaster ended, another one began (how come people always get addicted to bad news? I mean, no one ever gets addicted to kale). 1/

If you are anxious about being stressed you amplify the problem and can go into meltdown! You need a work around. The best way is to use your own physiology, as your lungs, heart, diaphragm, gut are in constant dialogue with your brain, via our favourite friend. The Vagus nerve.

As we get deeper into the breathtaking science of releasing stress, we realise the pivotal role the heart plays in taking signals from the breath and sending them onwards to the brain. #heartrate #BreathControl

Most of us breathe in and out 12-16 times a minute, often from the top of the chest (put your hand there, does it move when you breathe?). To activate our friend, the Vagus nerve, we need to slow down and go deep. Around 6 breathes per minutes, using your diaphragm. #VagusNerve

Meet our wonderfully smart neuroscientist and medic, both with massive hearts and big smiles. They go deep into the science of stress, how we bring our best to life. Ask them a question about how you can train your brain to let go of stress! #meettheteam

When we inhale twice we maximum the area of the lungs that can removes carbon dioxide and then a long exhale activates our friend the vagus nerve, slowing down the heart rate and creating a relaxed feeling. You can manually reduce symptoms of stress within a few seconds!
