The Hillcrest mine disaster, the deadliest coal mining tragedy in Canadian history, occurred on June 19, 1914, in Hillcrest, Alberta, in the Crowsnest Pass. Many of the victims are buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, now a designated historic site.
