Riddle me this: How does it make sense to set a fluency goal for a student to read a 5th grade level passage at 95% accuracy when they’re reading three grade levels below and haven’t even mastered decoding yet? Make it make sense. #IEPGoalsThatWork #DyslexiaAwareness

"Not only do short selections keep our students from thinking deeply about the world, this approach likely yields much fewer total words read, which is another impediment to deep reading. Reading achievement is, in part, a volume game." Marnie Ginsberg An exceptionally wise

The Science of Reading does not just encompass phonics. Comprehension is the ultimate goal and what we’re all working toward. I’ll be listening, Emily, and you should too!!!

Reading young-adult books (or short "texts") doesn't prepare English majors to read Dickens. Half of college students who find "Bleak House" too difficult are future English teachers. tinyurl.com/3635wrrb #reading #teaching Holly Korbey Natalie Wexler Robert Pondiscio Tyler Austin Harper

The WSJ journal wrote an article about the viral tweet I wrote back in March about Harvard remediating their students' math skills. Harvard's PR team is pushing back really hard. So what’s the truth? As is often the case, this debate hinges on definitions.

Harvard PR: “We are not teaching a remedial math class, we are simply remediating math in a class. There is a huge difference between the two you would understand if you went to Harvard.”

This info would’ve changed everything a decade ago. Grateful that respected voices are still shining a much-needed light on the harmful, ineffective practices of balanced literacy, and all its tentacles, like Guided Reading, as Wiley Blevins, EdD does so powerfully here 👇🏼

✅ This is absolutely true in Georgia. We need real accountability in how our Dyslexia and Early Literacy Laws are being implemented. 📚 These laws were meant to improve support for students, not make parents fight harder to get it. 💡 Parents deserve transparency. Students

It was my honor to interview Dr Peske for our latest episode. In this powerful conversation, Dr. Peske tackles a vital question: Are Colleges of Ed preparing our teachers? Don’t miss this insightful discussion at the intersection of policy, practice and the future of education.
