Good morning friends & followers! Happy #stirupsunday - the last Sunday before the season of Advent, traditionally when we start making Christmas puddings! Not sure about you but we’re not ready for autumn to end just yet! Here’s some Chinese Lanterns from the Pavilion Garden 🧡

Good afternoon friends & followers! If you didn't know, this week is #NationalTreeWeek - the UK's largest celebration of trees, marking the start of winter tree planting season. We're going to be sharing a tree a day from the gardens this week, along with a #funfact about each 🌳

The first of our #NationalTreeWeek trees is our #Hornbeam. Planted in 2001 these stilted Carpinus betulus will live on at Mitton Manor for up to 300 years! We have used a pair of pleached hedges to create 'Hornbeam Avenue'. The second photo shows how our Hornbeam looks now 🍂

Our next #NationalTreeWeek feature is our #SilverBirch. A symbol of purity, Silver Birch provide food and habitat for 300+ insect species and hole-nesting birds often next in the trunks. Tolerant of a range of temperatures, these versatile trees grow from Spain to Lapland! 🌳

Day three of #NationalTreeWeek brings the majestic Mitton Manor #CherryTrees (Prunus Kanzan) - the undisputed stars of the show in Spring! Whilst we don't expect these double flowering cherries to live beyond 25 years, their beauty makes them well worth planting 🌸🌳

Hello friends & followers! Today’s #NationalTreeWeek ft our #QuercusIlex (also know as Holm Oak). Their wood has been used since ancient times to construct the likes of pillars, tools and wagons to wine casks 🌳 here we enjoy the sound a breeze makes through their leaves 🍃

Happy #Friday friends & followers! Today’s #NationalTreeWeek ft is our #EnglishYew - or Taxus baccata - of which there are many in different forms around Mitton Manor gardens. In this Clive Nichols photo it is in ornamental topiary form but we also have dense yew hedges too 🌳

The Team at Mitton Manor are devastated to hear the sad news of Nigel’s passing Monty Don. He had a screen presence humans can train for years to attain and will be missed by a great many households 🐕 our love to Nellie & Patty and all of your family at this time 💜
