Great interview on an critical, under-the-radar topic. I've heard #VALID justified "FDA sent warning letters *to XYZ labs*" but this confusing lab regulation with #LDT regulation. Requiring #FDA approval of LDTs does NOT prevent malfeasance, fraud, bad lab mgmt, poor compliance

There are no commercial tests for monkeypox in the US - only lab-developed tests (LDTs). LDTs essential for large labs to adapt & pivot as we learn more about tropism including need to test non-lesion specimens. This is precisely why the #VALIDAct would be so problematic.

1/3 We already know that Sen Paul has no interest in covering the origins of Covid, it’s all about using his power in the Senate to target šŸŽÆ prominent US scientists, while inviting fringe elements to testify and promote outlandish conspiracies foxnews.com/politics/rand-…

Another provocative study by Joann Elmore, MD, MPH et al showing that dermatopathologists are influenced by the diagnosis of a previous dermatopathologist. This can even influence them to make an INCORRECT melanoma diagnosis. jamanetwork.com/journals/jamad…

Best wishes and great thanks to Mark Chandler, who retired from the UW Dept of Microbiology on Wednesday. I’m forever grateful for Mark’s partnership in the UW MICRO460 Parasitology course. Thanks for all you’ve done for UW students over the years!
