Our new data show that plant centromeres can be engineered. We seeded CENH3 to synthetic repeat arrays, causing chromosome breakage. Fragments passed through meiosis formed neochromosomes with synthetic centromeres and were faithfully transmitted. bit.ly/3RWm7pV
