Today's ruling on the “unlawful” use of the Single Justice Procedure for rail fare evasion cases has big implications for tens of thousands of people, and there are serious questions that the prosecuting authorities – in this case the train companies – need to answer as to how

Energy secretary Ed Miliband nationalises National Grid’s electricity system operations unit. It was doing a perfectly good job as currently constituted but Miliband wanted it under public ownership. At a £630m cost paid for by taxpayers but then recouped by charges on household

Huge setback for Merseyside and the North West and totally at odds with the Government’s drive for growth. It’s all very well saying the ‘mission is growth’, the evidence appears to show that when it comes to delivery it’s just words!

90% of all criminal cases dealt with by lay magistrates- some very sensible recommendations from the Mauro Landucci Association that would help to make magistrates feel more valued within the justice system.

This really doesn’t make sense - there are world leading university programmes in the North that are missing out in Global Talent Funding - UK Research and Innovation should think again!
