We are a 50% FSM school in a constituency where children do not benefit from social mobility to the same extent as some other places. This year we have taken all Year 7 to Cambridge University and children from other years to colleges and universities. No child left behind.

Last year we received the first ever Ofsted “Good” judgement in our history. Doncaster has benefitted from our rapid transformation. This year we have delivered: - Musical instruments for all - Family Dining - Every child at actual reading age - University visits for all 💪🏻

The “compliance is not engagement” trope is so tired. It was the theory of everything back in the 2010’s and earlier. It’s not profound, and at its worst it encourages teachers to eschew strategies that insist that 100% of students attend, think, and share their ideas.

Trauma is real, serious, and devastating for those affected by it. But the definitional creep it has gone through, from specific to vague circumstances, means that its usage in ‘trauma-informed’ school practice lacks clarity or precision. No one would wish to be ‘trauma

What makes Astrea Academy Trust great? Benefits of common approach + space to personalise. Astrea Academy Woodfields & David Scales have prioritised music and family dining. Astrea Ernulf & I have prioritised electives and trips. We collaborate & compare notes to help decide what’s next.

What absolute drivel from the Liverpool Echo and these attention seeking parents. Schools up and down the country put their hands up to get attention and silence. It is fast, safe and effective. I suppose they’ll be complaining about uniform next. 🤷 liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool…

Are there exemplary secondary schools (especially those in areas of disadvantage) we can visit that have successfully implemented an oracy-focused approach and can clearly demonstrate its impact on student outcomes, particularly in developing articulate, confident communicators

Spurious articles designed as clickbait that divide communities and hamper headteachers who are in it to improve people’s lives. Neither is it a fair fight! As a head you can’t talk about the specific incident or people, and you risk damaging the school reputation. Enough of this

There is a population bulge, currently in primaries but moving into secondaries. That is going to leave vacant buildings and primary staff without jobs. Perfect opportunity to improve childcare for working families and estates for post-exclusion destinations.

Labour need to understand these arguments about the curriculum, and how teaching methods and school approaches are breaking cycles of disadvantage. There are a handful of schools at the top of the table, and notable turnarounds, that are achieving Labour aims of social justice.
