A great start for learning this week! Worked on our marking the text and focused note taking with a review of the colonies.

So you say studying the political spectrum is boring? Tired of the same colonial events and covering them? Bring them to life in a Tableaux Vivant! Step 1: prepare!

Primary sources you say? How about students breaking down the Declaration of Independence preamble? Finding personal word gaps? What questions or comments do they have on the document? Our students do it all!

Which Revolutionary war battle was the “turning point”? How would students define success or failure for a battle? Just a few of things students considered as they read, took focused notes and shared thoughts on selected battles!

Were the similarities greater than the differences? Students showing off FNT skills as they explored multiple documents in 7th grade World History for Samurai and Knights!

After a delay this year in getting going, students jumped into NHD research. Many different topics as they explore the theme of Debate and Diplomacy. Expanding historical thinking and seeing students engaged in topics they selected!

Wrapping up the War of 1812 with creating magazine covers on the war! Students selected aspects of the war to highlight on the cover with titles of articles the reader would find “inside” and a selected quote or two!

Diving deep with the Mongols as students utilized DBQ sources to create and film a newscast proving their claim!

Students choosing how they will best take notes based on the essential question! Always proud to see the different ways that students design notes, today we add to them layering on Industrialization to our notes on Expansion!

Had a great two days of PD with Street Law! Great strategies and discussions with multiple stakeholders to broaden our tools and how we engage our students in tough historical and current day topics. Great appreciation to Matthew Wickman for being part of the journey!

Entire college classes are devoted to the road to the Civil War. Students dive into sources to answer, What caused the Civil War? Focused note taking and discussion around our DBQ documents.

One of my favorite things of the school year. Students creating a Civil War topic based board game. Design most of this coming week and then play-testing on Friday!

Day 2 of creating a Civil War themed board game. Great questions were asked and students dove deeper into the topic so they can add historically accurate info to the games!

Playtesting day! Students played Civil War themed board/card games created by classmates. They gave feedback and students reflected on the feedback given!
