End of the year benchmarking is my favorite time of year! One of my students was reading 34 words per minute with 83% accuracy on a grade level text. Today? 110 wpm with 99% accuracy. Structured literacy is the way! 💫

I don’t know who needs to hear this but, if it’s a “printable” Earth Day activity, you probably shouldn’t do it. Happy Earth Day!

I’ve seen what happens when structured literacy is present, and when it’s not. The difference is stark. Our responsibility is heavy, but clear. My job is not just to teach reading. My job is to ensure *every student* learns to read with urgency, skill, and care.

In related news here are my End-of-Year CBMmath Automaticity Scores…68% of my students are >85th percentile.

“Given that only 31 percent of Wisconsin students statewide score as “proficient” in reading on the latest National Assessment of Educational Progress, the state can’t tutor its way out of the reading crisis.  But it’s a start.” An excellent point!

Yes. Educators need predictable salary schedules that make it possible to stay in one place long term. “But what about underperforming teachers just collecting a paycheck?” Not my problem. That’s why principals need to principal.
