At a previous school, not long after I started, I came across an old lesson on the middle passage. The independent task was “imagine you’re a slave on a ship on the middle passage - write a diary entry explaining your experience.” I rewrote that lesson very quickly.

He is wrong here. Referendums propose a position. If the public say no, then, like a parliamentary motion, it is seen to be defeated therefore the motion or question is lost.

I think I finally get it. They were watching the West Wing, and that amazing episode that Bartlett sees out the storm and says he’s running again. That’s the rain thing. Sunak thought he was doing a Bartlett #westwing #politicsteacher #historyteacher

Good evening Marc Morris. A quick query if I may. Was one of the reasons William was crowned by Archbishop Alfred because of the need to get the North and Danelaw onside, not just because of the corruption of Stigand?

I tell my politics students there is a general rule, if someone is giving easy answers to complex questions, they’re lying to you.

All of the letters I have seen from new ministers to their department have emphasised the role and importance of civil and public servants. That is such an extraordinary sea-change.
