Yet more data on the decline in kids reading for fun (in addition to last year's NAEP finding that only 14% of 13-yr-olds did so on a daily basis). A curriculum that relies on whole books & extended content-rich texts can help, especially thru engaging read-alouds by teachers.

"When most kids in a class are non-readers, does daily Silent Reading time still make sense... for the kids?" If you get 20 different answers to this, in a school bldg, there needs to be honest, well-facilitated, PD. Alignment matters
