Last night, was a definitely an Alief U Holiday to remember. Teachers across the district had the opportunity to explore meaningful work and meaningful relationships through engaging challenges! Thank you AISD ProfDevelopment for providing this opportunity!

This was a National Computer Science week to remember! Our students enjoyed the spirit day activities and learned so much about coding and careers in computer science!

In honor of National Computer Science Week, all of our Miller Intermediate students got to participate in an #HourOfCode. I taught lessons that included Sphero, Wonder Workshop (Dash & Cue), and Tinkercad. I hope each one of our Mavs learned something new about coding this week!

This week my advanced coders moved from block to script coding, using C++ w/KISS Institute of Practical Robotics. This pushed me outside of my comfort zone, but why limit them? Let’s just say…it was a success & we all learned a lot! They typed every line & debugged the codes until we got it right!

From designing holiday ornaments in Tinkercad to making pixel posters using conditional coding, these Mavericks got creative with their gift giving. Happy holidays to the wonderful students that show up every morning at 7 a.m. ready to work. Can’t wait to see you in 2025!!

We’re getting the hang of script coding…It has definitely been a challenge, but I’m soo impressed with how much they have grown! They are now debugging codes all on their own 🥹Thank you Stacy Keener, M.Ed. for bringing KISS Institute of Practical Robotics to Alief.

Started the morning by getting into the Valentines spirit by using Micro:bit Educational Foundation to code a heart beat and a message to a friend! We will use loops and variables to continue to build on this until Valentine’s Day. WeTeach_CS, weteachcs.bsky.social

Started this morning off with Coding & 💘Cards!! The students created Valentine’s Day Cards with a special message from Sphero!!

Love can keep you grounded, but so can an interactive Valentine’s card Makey Makey. We reviewed circuits then applied the knowledge mixed with a little programming to make some Valentine’s Day fun 💘And of course we wrapped up the lesson with “love in the air” drone messages.

Let’s just say we are ending Spring Break on a high note! ☀️ Our team had an out-of-this-world experience at NASA before heading back to school tomorrow! 🚀 Miller Intermediate

Not only did the coding team rock STEM Night on Thurs…they were back at it early Fri. for the AliefDigitalLearning showcase! So proud of them for presenting on the content in Scratch Team, KISS Institute of Practical Robotics, Tinkercad, Sphero, & Micro:bit Educational Foundation. Add conference presenter to their resumes! 🚀

Pictures and videos don’t do justice. Watching even the shyest Miller Intermediate students shine with confidence during our Recycled Art Fashion Show was truly heartwarming. From crafting innovative designs to owning the runway, this was hands down the best keynote presentation!

Thank you University of Houston-Clear Lake. For most of our students, this was their first college tour. Seeing all the campus has to offer, the dorms, the STEM building, the beautiful art, and meeting RJ the alligator, was so inspiring to them! I think we have some future Hawks on our coding team!

Huge thanks to Houston Public Library and Alief Tech Link for an unforgettable field trip! The students said it was one of the BEST they’ve ever been on—and I couldn’t agree more. So grateful we got to explore this beautiful gem right in our community!

Of course, we’re not all work and no play! After discovering all the amazing resources at the Alief Community Center, we wrapped up our day with lunch and some fun in the sun at the park—it was the perfect ending to an awesome field trip at Houston Public Library.

What a strong start! In just 1 wk back, I helped AliefDigitalLearning roll out tech PD for 400+ new teachers, prepped 600+ Chromebooks (unboxed, enrolled, & cased) & was honored with a certificate at the ITS meeting! Huge thanks to Miller Intermediate Library, my team, & Alief ISD Tech Services (Mr. Hardiman)!
