The late John Gunderson wrote prolifically about “personality disorder” but said that when people have survived abuse: “Reframing the patient's experience as a consequence of childhood trauma is essential”

If 80% of people who are told they have BPD have survived abuse, why don’t I see psychiatrists doing this 80% of the time? Why do psychiatrists who laud Gunderson’s work ignore what he says about trauma and instead locate difficulties in a diseased/sick/disordered personality?
