Have you thought about the frame? Much of what does or doesn't succeed with kids, from policies to discussions to routines to lessons, can be traced back to how we framed it in the first place. Framing is the art of creating context for teaching and learning. Frames matter.

Going to think on this a little. Gotta make it sustainable though, and language access, when I’m unfortunately monolingual, would be something I would have to figure out. Do believe that we need to invite parents in more. Also have to make sure the tech does not privilege some

Anyone been in an authoritarian HS culture where the leaders tell teachers what to do and don’t let them say no. Was that ever effective? I have colleagues who believe admin should just dictate change-usually ones they are OK with-and it will be effective. I am skeptical. #edchat

Maybe because I’m GenX, I don’t understand the argument a student needs a smart phone so parents can track them. Seems like you have bigger issues than a phone if you have to know where your kid is at every moment of the day.

I’d like to nominate myself for Speaker of the House Qualifications: • Expertly equipped to manage a group that doesn’t follow instructions • Ability to wait an inhuman amount of time after saying, “I’ll wait” to folks who don’t listen • At least as qualified as the last guy

Building relationships has become quite a buzzword. Of course, this is important, but relationships should not be weaponized: they should not be used as a means to control or manipulate. They need to come from a genuine place of caring.

Anyone know of good PD on: IF you are trying to joke, remember they are 15 and insult humor is misread?” Or: get help for your own SEL so you don’t hurt their SEL? Or simply: how not to be an a**hole to kids?

A score in the grade book records a moment in time of learning. So, then, in a new moment, we should be open to recording a new score. Grades should never be closed cases. And if they ever are, what is it that we are guarding? Open learning to the many moments ahead. #NoGates

Kid: “Hey Mr. Kay, can you PLEASE give a fake quiz on chapter 12?” Me: “Why?” Kid: “So {redacted} didn’t read, and he asked us what happened, and we told him all sorts of crazy stuff, like Jack cooked and ate Ralph at the end…” Me: (🤣😂) “Now you know you wrong for that…”

I would probably pile on. Like, we would have a whole discussion on the symbolism of cannibalism and what Golding was saying about how we eat our own.
