Well written about a sad and complex problem that our city deals with every day. No simple or quick answers for those struggling to find decent shelter. Laudable that significant resources are allocated to this. Yet, ongoing attention still needed. nytimes.com/2021/02/08/nyr…

Important, but peripheral to the main issue - the death penalty. State must provide public order and a criminal justice system. Doesn't mean that all manner of keeping public order and all punishments should be sanctioned. apnews.com/article/religi…

Case study of the long lasting impact of systemic injustices. Inequalities related to race, wealth and other socio-economic factors have far-reaching tentacles. Not going away soon, yet that’s no excuse for failing to confront them now. (from The Associated Press) apnews.com/article/cf148c…

Perspectives on science, facts, truth in the current environment worth hearing. Other perspectives - also worthwhile. Interestingly, seems to be much overlap in how to look at religion these days. J. Peder Zane interviews Prof. John Staddon wsj.com/articles/scien… via The Wall Street Journal

An example of our country's best tradition. In times of crises and humanitarian need, we take down partisan divides. The needs of neighbors-even those we disagree with, come first. We might also want to try this in non-crisis times. IJS. nypost.com/2021/02/20/aoc… via New York Post

4.3 Billion of the world’s 8 Billion are either Christians or Muslims. If we could get along with one another, the world would certainly be a better, more peaceful place. Shouldn’t each of us try - not just leaders. apnews.com/article/2c43b8…

Arriving in Cracow - we came voluntarily. More than 200k Ukrainian refugees had no choice but to flee from war and seek safety here. They received a compassionate welcome.

Note in the background the doors of the Church are open. Faithful religious people are active in caring for people in the world well beyond the walls of the Church building. Kudos to the people of Poland welcoming refugees.

Reception desk Kosice, Slovaki RR Station. In the days after 2/24/22 Russian invasion of Ukraine, 20,000 people were arriving daily - and compassionately welcomed by Cáritas (Catholic Charities) and other Church groups.

Sandbags at the side of the road are a reminder of the war zone that Ukraine remains. Hopefully the war ends soon, the devastation ends, and families can return and be reunited.
