"even though most people believe they are self-aware, self-awareness is a rare quality...only 10%–15% of the people we studied actually fit the criteria..one of the most surprising findings of our research is that people who introspect are less self-aware" hbr.org/2018/01/what-s…

Question: if you put hundreds of Israelis in a cage like this, and fired live ammo at the cage, would they call it an extermination camp?

What's more, you improve your status by pretending to disavow the whole notion, as this original poster does. See my review of Musa al-Gharbi's book on status and wokeness for more on this: city-journal.org/article/review…

Excellent article by German Lopez for the The New York Times about a big, important problem in the US: Most crimes aren’t solved. If you murder someone, it’s essentially a coin flip whether you’ll be arrested for it. If you steal a car, you’ll almost certainly get away with it.

A propos of nothing, a major throughline in the work of political theorist Mahmood Mamdani is that the modern imperial state is distinct from earlier empires in its desire not to eradicate difference, but to shape and define it, and then govern through those hierarchies.

To borrow from Bernard Cohn, "I don't care what your position is on Mamdani's college application, as long as you're ashamed we have to debate this"

What a strange and misleading way to summarize the content of the article. What the full article actually details is that Qassem is unwilling to start disarming until Israel makes real moves to comply with *its* end of the agreement -- which it has been in constant breech of --

Contra most of the noise about racism and sexism in the academy, status/prestige bias is probably the biggest bias. For things like pubs & grants, probably even larger than the political biases I rail against. John also recently tw'd out a paper finding that when early career

The most eye opening conclusion in Musa al-Gharbi book "We Have Never Been Woke" is the Second Great Awokening "may have derailed" the civil rights movement - and a century of black progress. "Progressivism" is a euphemism for white saviorism that harms its claimed beneficiaries.

MUST WATCH! How is this not front-page news? Israeli soldier admits war crimes on camera "An Israeli reservist who served in Gaza has told Sky News IDF troops killed Palestinian civilians at random, with orders to shoot sometimes dependent on the mood of the commander."

In his first term, Trump tried to abuse his powers of office to crush free speech. His victims fought him in court and won. In term two, he’s doing it again and huge swathes of corporate media are surrendering without bothering to litigate. slowboring.com/p/the-scary-su…

Ah yes, Bibi & friends - great humanitarians! - want Palestinians in Gaza & their surviving loved ones to have “choice” between: >injury/death by IDF, deliberate starvation, deprivation of water, shelter, medical care, education, or >agreeing to be exiled/ethnically cleansed
